The federal Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration (OSHA) revised its Hazard Communication Standard (“Standard”) to conform with the United Nation’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The Standard also replaces the term “Material Safety Data Sheet” with “Safety Data Sheet”. The Standard became effective on May 25, 2012 in those states that do not have an approved program. California has an approved program and the changes do not take effect in California until it adopts the changes.
